David McDermott
David is a NZ-qualified landscape architect and plantsman with over 20 years’ experience in Aotearoa New Zealand’s land-based industries. He began his career in amenity horticulture, landscape construction, and site management across Auckland and Northland before undertaking further study in Wellington to broaden his work into landscape ecology, catchment remediation, strategic planning, and stakeholder engagement.
David brings extensive practical knowledge of native and exotic plants and their role in supporting diverse, abundant, and resilient landscapes. His work spans gardens, farms, and catchment-scale projects, helping landowners, organisations, and communities translate environmental aspirations into practical action.
An experienced project strategist and group facilitator, David works across NGO, government, commercial, and private sector initiatives. He holds qualifications in landscape architecture, business management, and organisational leadership.
Miriam Hafner
Miriam is a NZ–qualified ecologist and planting specialist with a passion for restoring resilient, diverse, and productive landscapes. Her work focuses on holistic ecological restoration that reconnects people with their land, waterways, and communities.
Miriam holds a Bachelor of Science in Ecology from Massey University and has a strong interest in communicating ecological science in ways that are clear, practical, and accessible. She provides ecological research, planting guidance, landscape design, and technical advice for restoration and land management projects. Her work includes collaborating with iwi and community groups, contributing to ecological guidance documents, and supporting private landowners in restoring biodiversity and ecological function on their land.
With over 20 years of experience in native revegetation, forest and riparian restoration, permaculture, and food forest design, Miriam’s approach is science-informed but remains intuitive, with a strong focus on nurturing and supporting natural regeneration of our landscapes.
